Future of E-Wallets in Malaysia - Tech In Asia KL City Chapters
To close of the last of our chapter events for the year, we’re bringing to you a fintech related topic for our in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Digital wallets have been slow to capture consumer attention in Malaysia, however we're starting to see it's inevitable entrance into mainstream adoption. In 2017, Malaysia welcomed major mobile payment services providers – AliPay and WeChat Pay, each boasting an array of offline and online partnerships. Unsurprisingly, the arrival of these juggernauts has sent shockwaves among the local third-party payment service providers.
The Tech in Asia KL chapter committee has selected representatives from E-wallet service providers to discuss the strategies in anticipation of the competitive onslaught brought by international players as Malaysia progressively moves toward becoming a cashless economy.
To cultivate a better discussion, we have assembled an experienced panel which includes:
Jason Siew, CEO of WeChat Pay Malaysia - Jason is no stranger to the payment systems industry in Malaysia. Since its infancy stage, he has immersed himself in the industry by leading numerous payments company for a decade and counting. He has taken leadership roles within several startups and corporates which include MOL, Friendster and Maxis. Jason’s outstanding portfolio on leadership is exemplified by being the Co-Founder of a payment technology company and is currently leading WeChat Pay’s Malaysia business.
Praveen Rajan, Chief Digital Officer of Digi - Praveen is enthusiastic about democratising technology for all which explains his ongoing fascination for all things digital, having spent more than 15 years in the internet and mobile industries. He joined Digi in 2007 and after having led numerous internet and digital services product teams, he was appointed Chief Digital Officer in 2016. No stranger to the startup scene, he spent his years before Digi co-founding a social networking startup called LifeLogger in 2003, where he served as the Chief Technology Officer.
Ungku Liza, Chief Operating Officer of Axiata Digital – Ungku Liza channelled her passion and relentless dedication for innovation into carving out a start-up operation within the Axiata Group. She cofounded Axiata Digital Services where she was responsible in building up 35 Digital Portfolios for the Group, now with a potential valuation more than 5x returns on these investments. Her experience in making both worlds works between the corporates and start up mentality is one of the key elements which drives the success of Axiata Digital today. She is currently leading the Strategic Partnership and Operations arm of Axiata’s Digital Wallet, Boost.
